Retreat to the Low Country

If there was ever a love song written to the south, Spring Island, SC would be its composer. Although I fell for Spring Island a long time ago, this week has given me an entirely new and beautiful connection to this place.

I have grown up visiting Spring Island with my family and not once have the lace curtains of Spanish moss, rows of twisting live oaks, or briny smell of the marsh ceased to amaze me. However, painting en plein air allowed me to experience all of these elements in a way that has given my perception an even more vivid hue. Throughout the past week, I have been reacquainted with the many faces of this island’s natural beauty — from sunrise through the Tabby Ruins to riverside sunsets, and even scorching midday marsh paint outs.

I invite you to explore these beautiful scenes and enjoy a mental retreat to the low country, without the sweaty price!
